Julia is a young lady living with deaf autism. Julia has a happy, big heart, social butterfly spirit whose presence and love are infectious. Her primary mode of communication is sign language. Julia is participating in the DIGS, Inc. network and the leisure opportunities they offer adults who are living with developmental disabilities.
Whenever she is with her friends they always want to know how to sign words to communicate with her. This has become such a demand not only from her friends but from other people in the community. So with the support of a good friend, Starling Smith, Julia will be teaching her friends sign language! The class will be structured around her level of communication which will be a great fit for her friends. Teaching her friends the ABC’s, Julia makes sure they understand the formation of the fingers and hand to form the letters. Julia did an awesome job teaching and she is excited about planning what to do next. Julia enjoys teaching to her friends. The class ended on high reviews and great anticipation for the next one. The sign language class meets the last two Thursdays of each month and is co-sponsored by the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority.
